Thomas Johnston

Thomas Johnston
Director of Tennis, USPTA, PTR

Thomas is a three-time collegiate All-American and former head men's tennis coach at the University of Virginia. At UVA, Johnston established himself as one of the most innovative and successful coaches in the country. In 1997, UVA qualified for the national team tournament for the first time in the school's history. In another first, Thomas led his team to the finals of the 1998 ACC Championships and NCAA Regional Championships. Under his leadership, the team's NCAA national ranking improved from No. 95 to No. 15. Upon graduating, several of his students went on to achieve world rankings.

Before joining Sea Colony, Thomas headed an award-winning tennis program at Wintergreen Resort in Virginia for 10 years. He was also named the USTA's 2015 Delaware District Pro of the Year.

Under Thomas' guidance as Tennis Director, Sea Colony is one of the top 50 resorts in the country, according to Tennis Resorts and Tennis Magazine. In 2012 and 2016, Johnston led Sea Colony to a USTA Outstanding Facility of the Year award. A respected speaker offering seminars on the mental and strategic aspects of tennis, he has also published numerous sports-related articles. With a master's degree in sports psychology, Thomas has completed his coursework for a doctorate in sports psychology.

Thomas has two children, Robert Alexander and Julianne Marie. His wife Maureen has taught college English for the past 8 years.

Alex Justiniani is Sea Colony Tennis' head professional

Alex Justiniani
Assistant Director of Tennis, PTR

Alex is a Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) certified instructor and has achieved professional certifications in all three PTR pathways: Adult Development, Junior Development (10 & Under and 11-17) and Performance. He also holds certifications in Cardio Tennis and Wheelchair Tennis. He was named Delaware’s 2012 PTR Pro of The Year and to Tennis Industry Magazine's 2013 Top 30 Under 30 professionals in the country.

As a player, he competed in ITF and Futures Circuit in the United States, Mexico and Europe. As a junior, Justiniani trained at the world renowned Van Der Meer Tennis Academy in Hilton Head Island, SC.
Alex brings 13 years of teaching experience to the resort program, including six right here at Sea Colony. 
Greg Gunther is an associate pro at Sea Colony Tennis

Greg Gunther
Associate Pro, PTR

Originally from Baltimore, Greg Gunther is a Wilson Pro Advisory Staff member (2011-2015) who learned to play and compete at tennis on the Delmarva shore and is excited to be part of the team at Sea Colony Tennis. His first result as a junior came as singles finalist in the Pepsi Junior Championships in Salisbury in 1982.  A regular attendee at Dean Burrough's Salisbury University tennis camps, Greg earned a tennis scholarship to Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala., where he was invited to play in three ITCA Rolex Intercollegiate Championships from 1990-1992 as a singles and doubles player.

A Louisiana resident since 2002, Greg has served as the director of tennis for both the Greater New Orleans YMCA 2012 - 2015 and A's & Aces New Orleans 2011 - 2012.  As the assistant head pro at the Aurora Country Club from 2006 - 2011, Greg worked alongside John and Bill Bryan in a very innovative and highly successful system. Greg assisted the high performance program at Aurora while overseeing all beginner programming. Greg also delivered the first 10 & Under and high performance tennis systems to Audubon Nature Institute as a tennis vendor and high school varsity coach from 2011 - 2014. Greg lives in Ocean City, Maryland.

Originally from Wayne, N.J., Katie Youlios started playing tennis at the age of six. She graduated from Wayne Hills High School, where she won the county championships four consecutive years. In addition, she captained the girls’ team her senior year.  
Katie graduated from Salisbury University in May 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in communication arts and a minor in athletic coaching. A four-time all-conference player, she graduated as the school’s all-time total wins leader, ending her collegiate career with the No. 4 in singles wins and No. 1 in doubles victories, with 55.. 
Katie started working at Sea Colony last summer and has been a valuable addition to our staff.  She has more than five years of coaching experience, including Nike Tennis Camps, and currently serves as the head girls’ tennis coach for The Salisbury School in Salisbury, MD.
